No it doesn't.It means less British pounds are being bought than are being sold. How high a currency is says nothing about how powerful or stable the country's economy is.

Actually, what this means is that the British economy is sucking more than the US economy. We are doing better...relatively.

it doesnt really matter that much. currency value in a global sense doesnt necessarily tell you a lot about the way the individual economy is doing. so if your wondering the dollar gaining against the pound means that the US economy is getting slightly better...think again :)

I was worried that Germany would exert this new power to require all American websites to carry pictures of naked 16 year old girls, since that's legal in Germany.Though, when I was in High School, I could imagine I would have supported that effort. Maybe not now, but I would definitely have liked it back then.

Excellent. So, when the Principality of Sealand seizes the websites for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd bank of Kentucky, and Kentucky.com, because it violates the local ordinance on their offshore platform requiring horse porn on all websites, thats fine, right?

In reading all of your posts aoou4444 I get what you are saying and whatnot so let me pose a couple of questions...What are the laws of mail order catalogs? For instance if someone in Kentucky was traveling and picked up a catalog in a different state (meaning that the catalog was not sent to them at their house) and then when they got back home they called place X and purchased something and that purchase was illegal in Kentucky but not in State Y where the catalog came from. What happens then?Building on that what about cell phones and the issues they bring considering they can be any area code and used anywhere. So if I live in FL and it is legal to do X in FL and I travel to KY and do X what then?Even further, would it not be up to KY then to build their own China-like "great firewall" for their state to block such things? Then how about things like cell cards for laptops vs. terrestrial internet services? In all reality there is no way that you can effectively block users from seeking out businesses they want to seek. ...well not without building a "great firewall" around KY. So where does it stop? Not only that but look at the implications for everything after this. If a state passes some obscene law then your site could be taken down for ***** you cannot even control.

"If my web servers are in a data center outside the US, and I regsiter my domain name with a registrar outside the US, how does anyone in the US have any jurisdiction over my business?"That's my point. They should have done this and ensured that the registrar was ready and willing to ignore any demands from a court. If they are going to conduct illegal business activities, they have the burden of covering all of their bases or things like this will happen.Even if all of this is true, the state would still have jurisdiction because you are conduction business in their state. Whether they could enforce it is another question.
